Introduction to site

I’m John Schmude, Parks and Recreation Director for Saginaw County, Michigan. We are located in mid-Michigan and have six parks, one of which is a rail trail.

Maintaining a rail trail has been learned on the go. I have found there are not a lot of resources to help solve problems. I would usually call other administrators that I knew had rail trails and pick their brains for solutions. I would also field calls from others seeking solutions.

I started thinking there should be a nation wide “help center” for those of us that administer and maintain these facilities. Surely others must be having the same issues, whether it is dealing with frost heaves or alligator crossing.

That is why I decided to establish www.railtrailmanager.com and the forum you are looking at.

This forum is aimed at those of us that need to solve problems. If you have questions or solutions please help out others like yourself by sharing.

We will post some of the most interesting solutions on our web at www.railtrailmanager.com.

This is a new and growing project so please let us know how we can improve it by contacting us. Details are on the web page. I am better at running parks than I am at running a web page.

By the way, this site is supported totally by me and is not affiliated with the full time job.
